The Swiss Settlers Monument and Swiss United Church of Christ in downtown New Glarus, Wisconsin. → Buy a Print or License Photo

As some of you know, I’ve been busy updating photos on my website and adding new photo galleries. There’s a couple reasons for doing this, but chief among them is to offer a larger collection of photographs in my gallery, but another reason I am doing this is so I can spread my portfolio across various websites to prevent them from getting lost.

Last week when I featured my gallery of Madison, Wisconsin photos I’m sure I bored a few of my Montana friends. Well, I need to apologize one last time because I’m doing it again. This time I am featuring 20+ photos (many never before seen) from my hometown…New Glarus, Wisconsin. I’m doing this because several people I know back home in Wisconsin asked that I do this. And I always aim to please. 🙂

Before you take a look at them please remember a few things. For starters, all of these photographs were taken between 2005 and 2009 at a time when I was just starting my foray into the world of photography. In other words, many are not necessarily my best work. That said, I thought they would offer a nice chance for people to see how I see my hometown and immediate area around my hometown.

For those who don’t know, New Glarus is a small town of about 2000 residents. It was founded in 1845 by settlers from Switzerland who were looking for a better way of life. In fact, the statue you will see in some of these photographs lists the names of some of my relatives. Some may also wonder why there are so many rural photos. Well, there’s more to New Glarus than just the village. I for one grew up outside of New Glarus, and I personally think it is impossible to tell the story of New Glarus without also giving a glimpse into the rural areas around my hometown.

New Glarus, for example, helped contribute to the success of the Wisconsin dairy industry when many of its settlers began milking cows as a way to earn a living instead of working in the nearby lead mines. From there new settlers to New Glarus brought the art of cheese making to New Glarus. At one time New Glarus and Green County Wisconsin was once considered the cheese capital of the world. The other reason there are so many rural photos? Well, as many of you know, I’m a sucker for barn photos and farm photos. All these photos, however, are from within the boundaries of the New Glarus School District.

So, without further ado, please enjoy this collection of 20+ photos of New Glarus, Wisconsin. To see more of my photo galleries scroll to the bottom of the page to see a carousel of links to past featured galleries or visit my new photo galleries page here at TODDKLASSY.com.
