What state has the biggest spread between its record maximum and minimum temperatures? You guessed it, Montana, which has a range of 187 degrees. San Francisco meteorologist Jan Null discussed this on his weather related blog recently and he included this diagram to illustrate the point.
The coldest I have experienced while out making Montana photographs is −41° Fahrenheit. The warmest? 102°. That’s a spread of 143 degrees. Amazing.
