This is an old brick schoolhouse that has long been abandoned on the plains of what was once downtown Buffalo, Montana. I like photographing the abandoned buildings that dot the eastern Montana landscape (especially schoolhouses), but this one is different because it is a brick building and doesn’t look like it should be abandoned at all. It can’t be as old as the old wooden structures I often find. Maybe the school board in Buffalo, had higher hopes for its school district when they built it, which obviously dissolved at some point…probably around World War II when many rural Montana citizens moved to the city to help with the war effort and then ended up staying there after the war.
